James Maddison breaks silence after Leicester City hammer blow amid Arsenal transfer links

James Maddison has opened up on the heartbreak of relegation, sending Leicester City supporters an emotional message on social media.

The Foxes were unable to stave off the drop despite a final-day victory against West Ham United, finishing 18th in the Premier League - finding themselves in the Championship next season as a result. Star midfielder Maddison has been heavily linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium in recent times, with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United all mooted as potential destinations.

Now, the England international has taken to Instagram to share a message with Leicester fans regarding his emotions on the 2022/23 campaign. Hit caption read: “Absolutely devastated to be relegated from the Premier League.

"I’ve took (sic) a bit of time to reflect on the outcome of the season and to be honest it doesn’t make it any easier at all. This will hurt for a very long time and probably stick with us all forever.

"But that’s life & it’s about how you bounce back from setbacks & failure and unfortunately that’s exactly what this season was.. a failure. We should never have been in the position we were, with the players we have.

"But we take responsibility for that & the negativity that comes with it & continue to stick together @lcfc.” Maddison will be into the final 12 months of his contract with the club at the end of June and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano recently reported that the 26-year-old would definitely leave the Foxes this summer.

Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Romano said: “Maddison is 100 per cent leaving the club. Let me mention Newcastle because Newcastle love the player, Newcastle really appreciate him, they are in the race again and he is another player appreciated by Arsenal, these two clubs are interested in the situation of Maddison and I’m sure there will be a fight for this player."
