Jameis Winston relieved by conduct hearing result, coach Jimbo Fisher says

Dec. 22--Jameis Winston feels a sense of relief after being cleared of violating FSU's code of conduct, according to coach Jimbo Fisher.

"I feel very happy for him and his family, and the people involved. I'm just very happy for him," Fisher said Monday.

Retired Florida Supreme Court Justice Major Harding ruled Winston was not responsible for violating any of the student code of conduct in connection with an alleged sexual assault that occurred in December 2012. His decision was announced Sunday. The state attorney's office opted not to press charges against Winston in December 2013, but the possible ramifications of code of conduct hearing loomed over Winston the majority of the 2014 season. Winston's playing status could have been impacted if he was found to have committed any of the four charges brought up against him.

Now Winston can prepare for the Rose Bowl against Oregon Jan. 1 without the lingering threat of a suspension.

"We've dealt with it in our own ways, but it is a relief, especially for him," Fisher said. "We spoke very quickly, but he's on to the next thing. He's focused on the team, like he always is."

FSU practiced Monday, with Winston in attendance, for the last time before Christmas. Players will be allowed to go home and be with family for the holiday break, and will then return to Tallahassee prior to traveling to Pasadena, Calif. on Dec. 26.
