Jake Wood talks EastEnders return amid fan theory dead body is 'name from the past'

Jake Wood has discussed the possibility of an EastEnders return amid a fan theory that the dead body is a 'name from the past'.

The BBC One soap aired a huge flashforward scene earlier this week, which saw six of Walford’s much loved matriarchs, Denise (Diane Parish), Kathy (Gillian Taylforth), Linda (Kellie Bright), Sharon (Letitia Dean), Stacey (Lacey Turner) and Suki (Balvinder Sopal) standing over a dead body - but who was it and who committed the 'murder'?

Some fans - and some of the actresses - are convinced the body could belong to a former Albert Square resident, as actor Jake Wood - who played Max Branning - broke his silence on a possible return.

Jake discussed a possible EastEnders return (ITV)

Speaking on Good Morning Britain today, he said of a possible return: "They've kept the door open," and didn't rule out a possible return all together, as he added: "I don't think at the moment but never say never."

It comes after executive producer Chris Clenshaw teased there were lots of clues to their identity in the short scene.

He said: "I’m not going to give anything away that the episode hasn’t already given, but what I will say is there were clues in there. Did you look closely? I urge everyone to re-watch the scene and look at every detail.

There's a death this Christmas, but who meets his end? (BBC)

"There’s also a few treats in the scene if you look hard enough. What I’d also say is that a lot can happen in Walford between February and December – circumstances can change, relationships can change, loyalties can change – so what you may suspect now could be somewhat different as we make our way through 2023 and head towards Christmas."

Some of the women involved have predicted it could be a face from the past - or someone not even in the soap yet.

Balvinder Sopal - who plays Suki on the show - said: "In terms of who meets their fate, it could literally be anyone. I think it could be Keanu, it could be Rocky, it could be Nish, it could be somebody who hasn’t been in the show for a long time, it could be somebody new who comes in. And I think maybe all of the women might be involved."

Kellie Bright - who stars as Linda Carter - added: " Well, I mean this is all guess work on my behalf, but in my mind I haven’t done it. But that is just based on nothing other than what I think or felt when we were filming it.

"I’ve got a feeling, I had a very strong feeling, or more of an idea that the victim was going to be a really big player in this show and I’ve slightly changed my mind, and I think it might be someone who is not in the show yet. A character that we’re yet to meet."
