Jake Luton set to start again Week 10 vs. Packers

After having a good debut against the Houston Texans, rookie quarterback Jake Luton will remain the Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback for Week 10’s game against the Green Bay Packers. Coach Doug Marrone confirmed the news Monday, which many expected to be the case with Gardner Minshew II not throwing yet due to a significant thumb injury.

“Gardner [Minshew II] is progressing but it doesn’t seem like he’ll be progressing enough to be ready, so Jake [Luton] will play quarterback,” Marrone said Monday.

Luton’s second start comes after he aided the Jags to a competitive game against the Texans and put them within a 2-point conversion of knotting it up at 27 points. He ultimately finished the game with a 68.4% completion rate (26-of-38) for 304 yards, a touchdown, and a pick. He also had a 13-yard rushing touchdown, which put the Jags in position for the aforementioned 2-point attempt.

Unlike in Sunday’s game, Luton will be in for a significantly greater challenge against the Packers. Not only will he have to keep up with Aaron Rodgers, but he’ll also have to compete against the No. 11 ranked defense in the NFL (allowing an average of 345.4 yards a game), who are miles ahead of the Texans’ unit.
