Jake Hastie's Rangers issues outlined as Stephen Robinson explains lack of Motherwell game time

Rangers loanee Jake Hastie got a rare outing for Motherwell this afternoon as Steven Robinson explained why he’s not seen much game time.

The winger moved to Ibrox on a pre-contract back in 2019 following a whirlwind six months in the Steelmen’s first team.

His Fir Park form persuaded Steven Gerrard to hand the youngster a four-year deal, but he was loaned out to Rotherham that September before being recalled in January of this year.

A temporary return to Lanarkshire followed in the summer, but since then Hastie has made just eight appearances in all competitions.

He came off the bench during Motherwell’s 1-0 Scottish Premiership defeat to St Mirren, and Robinson explained that the Scotland Under 21 international just hasn’t done enough after arriving from Rangers in less than top condition.

"Hastie hasn’t done enough, there’s no disguising that - it’s taken us a long long time to get him to where we thought we could, through lack of confidence, lack of fitness,” explained the Well boss.

"He’s been pushing himself, he didn't come to us in good condition and he knows that himself, that’s not saying it was anything to do with Rangers, he left them in good condition but he didn't push himself and he has now.

”He gave us something we haven’t had here and gave us a little hope."
