JAIPUR: The long-pending Sodala elevated road project has finally reached its last phase of construction.
After a recent inspection, Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) officials are optimistic that the project will be completed in the next 20 days and will be opened for vehicular traffic.
“Construction of only a 90-metre portion of this project is left. We (JDA) have to merge both Sodala and Ajmer elevated road, following which a concrete road will be laid. The firm that has been awarded the contract has been directed to increase manpower and complete the work within the next 20 days. The project is likely to be inaugurated next month,” said a JDA official.
The Sodala elevated road is going to play a crucial role as it would drastically reduce the traffic load once it gets operational. An official pointed at a 2011 survey to say that 7,135 passenger car units (PCU) passed per hour on Bhawani Singh Road compared to its capacity of 5,143 PCU.
The survey also highlighted the same traffic situation at Hawa Sadak. In 2011, 10,355 PCUs were recorded per hour whereas the road capacity was just 6,361 PCUs. Traffic on this stretch moves at 17 km per hour.
Once the elevated road is operational, vehicular speed will improve to 60 km per hour. JDA has also raised the 22-Godam circle and installed a traffic light. Under the project, four ramps would be constructed for traffic to ascend and descend from the elevated road.
“Once this project is completed, a commuter will be able to reach Ajmer Road via Hawa Sadak within ten minutes. Commuters travelling from Ambedkar Circle will also have an option to ascend it at Nandpuri near Hilton Hotel using the ramp,” said a JDA official.
