Jaguars sign former Bears RB Benny Cunningham

After adding tailback Alfred Blue Monday, the Jacksonville Jaguars have decided to add another tailback Tuesday in former Chicago Bears tailback Benny Cunningham. The move is one that now brings the Jags to a total of six tailbacks as T.J. Yeldon and Corey Grant weren’t re-signed and remain on the open market.

Cunningham, 28, entered the league as an undrafted player in 2013 with the St. Louis Rams and spent four seasons with them before signing with the Bears in 2017. While with the Rams, he managed to accumulate 748 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Unfortunately, his tenure with the Bears wasn’t as productive in terms of rushing as the veteran only was able to accumulate 49 yards on the ground, but he did have 249 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns over his tenure there.

Cunningham will enter a Jags running back group which will be led by Leonard Fournette and possibly Blue as a No. 2. That said, his job will be to out perform Thomas Rawls, David Williams and any other tailbacks the Jags may add for the No. 3 receiver spot, which belonged to Grant when the 2018 regular season kicked off.
