Jaguars open the week as 5.5-point favorites vs. the Jets

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be in a position that they have surprisingly been in lately when they face off against the New York Jets at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, FL.

According to BetMGM, the Jaguars will open the week as 5.5-point favorites, which is the highest spread that they’ve opened up with all season. This will represent the third game in a row where they have opened up as a favorite(-1.5 vs. the New Orleans Saints and -3.5 vs. the Cincinnati Bengals). The Jaguars have only covered as a favorite once, which was this past Sunday against the Bengals.

The Jaguars are coming off of a win against Cincinnati raising their record to 3-4 on the year. The Jets are coming off of a brutal home loss to their division rival in the New England Patriots and now sit at 1-5.

The Jaguars are also a -250 favorite on the money line, which also represents the highest margin that they have opened with. With the Jaguars being the favorite, a bettor would have to place $250 on the Jaguars to win $100.

The Jaguars are currently 4-3 against the spread, while the Jets are only 2-4 against the spread. The Jets’ last spread cover came in Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys where they were a seven-point underdog and would go on to beat the Cowboys 24-22. The Jaguars last covered in Week 7 vs. the Bengals where they opened and finished as a 3.5-point favorite. The Jaguars would go on to win 27-17.

Not many points are expected to be scored as the over/under for the game is set at only 40.5 points. The Jaguars are ranked at No. 18 in scoring offense, accumulating an average of 20.6 points per game, while the New York Jets are tied with the Miami Dolphins for last place scoring only 10.5 points per game.
