Jags promote CB Brandon Watson from practice squad after retirement of Josh Robinson

The Jacksonville Jaguars started their day down one player from their 53-man roster as veteran cornerback Josh Robinson decided to retire. Head coach Doug Marrone broke the news to the media Wednesday morning after meeting with the veteran one on one before practice.

Afterward, the team then promoted practice squad cornerback Brandon Watson to the main roster.

Robinson, 28, signed with the Jags in July after playing for the New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Minnesota Vikings and found himself making the final roster. He participated in all eight of the Jags regular season games and managed to accumulate three tackles in the process, but retired with 182 career tackles, 15 pass breakups, and five interceptions.

Watson, 24, was signed to the Jags’ practice squad after they made their final cuts. He was with the team throughout the preseason, participating in all four games and accumulating six tackles. Before that, he played collegiate football at Michigan where he took part in 51 games and accumulated 79 tackles, 18 pass breakups, and three interceptions.
