Jags projected to finish last in the AFC South

The Jacksonville Jaguars may have upgraded their roster at the quarterback position, but there are some who still don’t think they’ll return back to the top of the AFC South. In fact, according to sportsbook operator CG Technology, they’ll finish last in the division with just eight wins on the season.

Of course, the ascending Indianapolis Colts came away with the highest win total (9) and were projected to win the division, while the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans were predicted to win a total of 8.5 wins. That shouldn’t exactly shock anyone as the Colts are the most complete team of the three and were the last AFC South team that was eliminated this postseason.

One could understand why the Colts would be viewed as the early favorites to win the division as they have one of the best offenses and quarterbacks in football. Their defense was also the No. 10 ranked unit in points allowed and eighth against the rush, which is better than most projected heading into this season.

As for the Texans and Titans, I agree that their gap between them and the Jags is a little tighter now that Jacksonville has Nick Foles. It’s no secret that former quarterback Blake Bortles struggled mightily against both opponents (especially the Titans). With him now in Los Angeles and the offense coming back healthier, I think it’s fair to say the Jags could split both contests. Then again, they’ve actually showcased the ability to beat and shutout the Colts, too, as we saw in December so the AFC South could be a very tight division down the stretch.
