Jags fall back to No. 20 spot in Week 9 USA TODAY power rankings

After putting together a two-game win streak, the Jacksonville Jaguars fell flat on their faces against their divisional foes the Houston Texans who defeated them by a score of 26-3. The story of their trip across the pond was their offensive struggles as the Texans stifled them in front of their United Kingdom following, who have now witnessed the Jags lose two straight at Wembley Stadium.

Prior to the loss, the Jags had worked their way up to the No. 17 spot of USA Today’s power rankings, however, they were moved back to the No. 20 spot in Week 9’s rankings.

20. Jaguars (17): They face a lot of bad teams, the kind rookie QB Gardner Minshew has feasted on, down stretch. Would it really make sense to go back to Nick Foles right now?

Our comrade Nate Davis is right, Minshew did flourish against a lot of bad teams but he wasn’t the only issue. The play-calling was questionable on John DeFilippo’s part, the receivers dropped several key passes, Leonard Fournette was underutilized as a rusher and the defense couldn’t capitalize on sacking Deshaun Watson.

To make matters worse, the Jags could’ve taken the second place spot in the division and could’ve been the only team to win in the AFC South with the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans losing as well. Now, they will have hope that the loss wasn’t too costly and bounce back to .500 by beating the Colts Week 11.
