Jaffa Cake the cat survives 180ft fall from flat window with barely a scratch

A cat fell from the 18th floor of a tower block and survived without even a broken bone.

Carley Burke had feared the worst after noticing Jaffa Cake had vanished from her flat.

She had earlier seen the tabby near the open window, which was the only way out.

Jaffa Cake had strayed unnoticed on to the window ledge before plunging 180ft.

Mum-of-one Carley found her lying at the foot of the tower block, and rushed her to the vets.

But after a night under observation, Jaffa Cake was found to have no broken bones or serious injury.

Relieved bar worker Carley, 21, said: “She never goes on the windows and so I panicked a lot.

“After taking her to the vets I stayed up all night expecting to hear bad news. But when I went to see her the next morning they said she was fine.”

Carley, of Southampton, Hants, added: “It was unbelievable. We were really shocked she didn’t have any broken bones or a broken jaw.

“I want to warn people to be careful. Jaffa Cake will now be a really nervous cat.”

After finding two-year-old Jaffa Cake 'half dead', Miss Burke rushed her to the vets, with the cat coughing up black blood and having suffered a severely swollen face.

PDSA vet Victoria Couzens said: “We were advised she had fallen from an 18th storey flat.

“Incredibly, she had no serious injuries. It’s something of a mystery how she survived.

“Cats are able to twist their bodies in mid-air, meaning they generally land on their feet – and perhaps leading to the ‘nine lives’ myth.

“But I’ve not come across a cat that fell from such a height so miraculously unscathed. She’s quite a miracle cat.”

Carley did not see the moment Jaffa Cake plunged to what experts say should have been instant death.

But she had earlier seen her near the window and the only other way out of the flat was through the closed front door.
