Jacob deGrom set back with right arm inflammation, shut down from throwing for two weeks

NEW YORK — Jacob deGrom’s injury status just went from bad to ... oh, crap.

The Mets ace has been shut down from throwing for two weeks after suffering a setback with his right forearm tightness. An MRI on Friday revealed more inflammation in his right arm, though no structural damage was displayed.

DeGrom will be retested and reevaluated in two weeks, after which the Mets will determine whether he can begin ramping up activity again.

The best-case scenario for the club is that deGrom will go back into the rotation in September. His last start was on July 7 before he went on the shelf with the forearm tightness, which was his fifth injury of the season.
