The transfer window may be shut, but the speculation just keeps continuing.
Jack Wilshere has been linked with a move to Rangers by a number of news outlets since departing West Ham on deadline day.
And now one respected journalist is claiming the Ibrox club have stepped up their interest.
Transfer market specialist Nicolo Schira tweeted: "Former Arsenal and West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere is in advanced talks with Rangers. They can sign him as a free agent. #transfers"
talkSPORT earlier said that a deal "shouldn't be ruled out" as Gerrard weighed up a possible reunion with his ex England teammate.
After leaving the Hammers, Wilshere said: "I am still incredibly hungry, ambitious and desperate to play football and achieve success.
"I'm still only 28 and feel fit, strong and ready to play.
"I'm now looking forward to the future and hope to be able to make an announcement about the next stage of my career in due course."
As Wilshere is a free agent Rangers could still complete a deal for him beyond the deadline.
Gerrard and Ross Wilson bolstered the squad on the last day of the window with the signing of South African international Bongani Zungu.
