Jack Draper vs Lorenzo Musetti - LIVE!
Jack Draper marched into the Madrid Open final with another statement straight-sets win over Italian Lorenzo Musetti. The British number one battled past 10th seed Musetti 6-3 7-6 (4) and will face Norway's Casper Ruud in Sunday's final as he bids for a second Masters title in two months.
Reaching a first career ATP final on clay - considered Draper's weakest surface - also provides the 23-year-old with a massive fillip with the French Open just over three weeks away. Should he add the Madrid title to the Indian Wells crown he won in March, Draper - who has already leapfrogged Novak Djokovic into the world's top five - would be only 25 ranking points behind American world number four Taylor Fritz.
Draper, who has yet to drop a set in Madrid, told Sky Sports: "Every moment felt like a key point. I've played Lorenzo since juniors but he's a different animal on clay. I was trying to stay present. I had chances. I thought I did a great job, especially at the end changing tactics, serve-volleying a bit more.”

Back on the big stage
21:23 , Matt VerriTwo Masters 1000 finals already in 2025 for Jack Draper.
The first of them brought victory at Indian Wells... can he now double up?
First clay-court title is now just one win away for the British number one.
FLYING this year.
Final time!
21:13 , Matt VerriSo impressive from Jack Draper.
Lorenzo Musetti had the momentum for a fair bit of that second set, but the British number one was so tough.
He’ll face Casper Ruud in Sunday’s final.
What a shot to win it! 🤩

GAME SET AND MATCH!
21:10 , Matt VerriDraper 6-3 7-6 Musetti
Draper goes for the serve and volley, doesn’t need the volley. Musetti’s slice floats out and it’s two match points for Draper at 6-4!
WHAT A WAY TO WIN IT! Huge smile on his face as Draper runs down the drop shot and makes the crosscourt pass.
That’s a sensational win. Into the final in Madrid.
Draper 6-3 6-6 Musetti
21:09 , Matt VerriDraper’s on the charge! Short return sits up for him and he throws the kitchen sink at the forehand. 5-2.
Net cord... lands just on Draper’s side of the court. Could have gone anywhere. 5-3.
Musetti confident in putting away the forehand. 5-4. Over to the Draper serve...
Draper 6-3 6-6 Musetti
21:06 , Matt VerriNo sign of a mini-break yet, as Draper goes for too much with the backhand and it flies long. 2-2.
There is the first mini-break... and it goes to Draper. Musetti was a couple of inches away from making a stunning crosscourt pass, but it lands just out. 3-2 Draper and he has two serves to come.
Timely first serve gets Draper 4-2 up at the change of ends.
Draper 6-3 6-6 Musetti
21:04 , Matt VerriMusetti to serve first and he’s 1-0 up as Draper nets the return.
Should probably be 2-0 with Draper out of position, but Musetti flicks a backhand wide. 1-1.
Massive backhand from Draper, but Musetti does so well to get it back... only to then gift an unforced error with his next shot. 2-1 Draper.
Draper 6-3 6-6 Musetti
21:01 , Matt VerriCan Draper take it to a tie-break?
It’s a great start. Gruelling rally, Draper stays aggressive and a couple of flat backhands seal the point.
Musetti responds, with an absolutely perfect one-handed swat of his backhand. Everyone should have to hit a single-handed backhand, we need to see more of it.
Trouble here... 15-30 and Musetti is a couple of points away from the set.
What a time for the first serve, 30-30. Nearly silent in the stands after that.
Strange slice from Draper, gets away with it though when Musetti mishits a forehand. 40-30.
Serve and volley, massive hold to take us to a breaker.
Draper 6-3 *5-6 Musetti
20:55 , Matt VerriBoth looking solid on serve.
Musetti moves 30-0 up, as Draper blinks first in a baseline exchange. The Briton was winning most of those earlier in the match.
That’s just too good. Musetti on the run, flat forehand winner down the line. Draper doesn’t move. 40-0.
And another one - hold to love! Talk about a statement.
Draper 6-3 5-5* Musetti
20:52 , Matt VerriDraper’s forehand speed has dropped right down in this set. Couple of signs that he might just be tiring a bit more than Musetti - could do without a deciding set then.
That helps, two cheap points behind the serve to kick off the game.
Musetti then makes a brilliant volley, but Draper is there to response with the backhand pass. 40-0.
Serve and volley, rapid hold to love. Maybe we need to hold off on the tired talk...
Draper 6-3 *4-5 Musetti
20:48 , Matt VerriMusetti about an inch away from a double fault, goes on to win the point. Draper swiftly over to glare at that ball mark.
Then sends a backhand long on the stretch, Musetti races 30-0 up.
Nothing on the stretch about that, Draper perfectly in position to flatten the backhand down the line for a winner. 30-15.
Anything you can do... even bigger winner from Musetti.
Swinging ace from the Italian, a game away from the set.
Draper 6-3 4-4* Musetti
20:45 , Matt VerriBig trouble now, break point! Massive roar from Musetti and the crowd are right behind him, as loud as it’s been all night.
And there’s a shout of his own from Draper, as Musetti sends a pretty poor forehand wide. So annoyed with himself - deuce.
The crowd involvement seems to have fired Draper up, intensity has been raised. His advantage as Musetti nets a drop shot.
Fist pump to his box as he finds the line with the forehand down the line. Huuuuge hold.
Draper 6-3 *3-4 Musetti
20:42 , Matt VerriDraper needs to be careful here. If he gets broken, Musetti will serve to level the match.
Not sure that message has quite got through... double fault from the British number one.
Musetti then left frustrated as he slips behind the baseline and can’t get the forehand back. 30-15.
That’s brilliant, Draper disguises the drop shot so well and then just rolls his racket under the ball.
Big Musetti forehand gets it back to 40-30... and it’s deuce after a shank from Draper.
Draper 6-3 *3-4 Musetti
20:36 , Matt VerriYou could create a serious highlights package just of the forehand winners in this match. Musetti adds his latest entry, slapped crosscourt.
He then moves well up to the net and puts it away confidently, 30-15. This set is right in the balance, neither of them particularly on top.
That won’t be making any highlights - poor drop shot from Draper and Musetti is there to take advantage.
It’s another hold, Musetti edges back in front.
Draper 6-3 3-3* Musetti
20:32 , Matt VerriThat’s a disaster from Draper. He’s not looked confident under the high ball and two tame smashes come straight back, before Musetti flicks a lovely backhand pass. 15-15... crowd are increasingly behind him.
Musetti then goes for a drop shot as a string breaks - doesn’t clear the net. 40-15.
After a shaky start to the game, it’s a good hold for Draper.
Draper 6-3 *2-3 Musetti
20:26 , Matt VerriDraper not great with the overhead, so Musetti gives him another one. That’s not much better.
Lets the Italian back in the point and he wins it with a brilliant drop shot. That’s really got the crowd going.
Musetti whips a nice forehand down the line, another big fist pump. Still bang up for it. 40-15 up, after a good put-away at the net.
Draper nets his return and it’s a hold for Musetti.
Draper 6-3 2-2* Musetti
20:22 , Matt VerriServe and volley has worked well for Draper on the few occasions he’s turned to it.
Something a bit less subtle next point - steps into a crosscourt forehand and Musetti can’t get it back. 40-0 in no time at all.
Make that a hold to love in a few seconds more than no time at all.
Draper 6-3 *1-2 Musetti
20:19 , Matt VerriLoose Draper return, haven’t seen many of those.
And that is simply too good! Lovely smooth swing of that single-handed backhand and it’s a clean winner down the line.
Musetti, just about, holds.
Draper 6-3 1-1* Musetti
20:17 , Matt VerriThe Draper forehand has been such a weapon tonight. Particularly down the line, which he pulls off yet again.
Long baseline exchange, Draper nets a routine backhand. Waves his hand at the court, he thinks that stayed low. Musetti then misfires with the forehand, 30-30.
Ace from the Italian is very timely. Turns to the drop shot next point, Draper runs it down and wins the point. Deuce.
Break point coming up! Could see it coming a mile off, as Draper lines up the forehand down the line and once more it delivers.
Terrible drop shot from Musetti, but saves himself with a great lob. Deuce again.
Draper 6-3 1-1* Musetti
20:11 , Matt VerriMusetti tries the backhand down the line, groans in frustration with it still in the air. Knew that was going long.
Draper then finds the very outside of the line with his latest forehand winner. 30-15.
Couple of unforced errors from Musetti and that’s a comfortable Draper hold.
Draper 6-3 *0-1 Musetti
20:07 , Matt VerriMusetti judges the lob nicely, Draper gets back but can’t pull off the tweener.
Italian then winds up a nice forehand winner, 40-0 and a confident start to this set.
Ace to wrap up a hold to love.
Draper 6-3 Musetti
20:03 , Matt VerriDrop shot from Draper is a good one, Musetti flicks it back but it’s already bounced twice. Second set point for the Briton.
That’ll do it! Big first serve, big forehand and Draper takes the opening set in 50 minutes.
Draper *5-3 Musetti
20:02 , Matt VerriHuge roar from Musetti, trying to get the crowd going as he comes out on top at the end of a long baseline exchange. 0-15.
And that quietens things down... ace! Follows it up with another big first serve, 30-15.
“You know what to do,” is the only advice from coach James Trotman.
Unless that is watch as Musetti smashes a brilliant forehand winner down the line, I’m going to guess that point didn’t go to plan. 30-30.
Serve and volley from Draper brings up set point.
Can’t take it, slice floats wide. Deuce.
Draper *5-3 Musetti
19:57 , Matt VerriMusetti goes for a very ambitious drop shot as he’s backpedaling, floats into the net. Back to deuce.
It’s a battling hold, as the second serve proves good enough for Musetti.
He’s at least asked the question of Draper, who will now serve for the set.
Draper 5-2* Musetti
19:55 , Matt VerriMusetti serving to stay in the set.
He has Draper on the run, and the Briton is at full stretch as he nets the attempted backhand pass. 30-0.
It’s been a really good game from Musetti, as he pulls off another perfect drop shot. Might be too late to save the set, but it’s much better from him.
Can’t do anything there... Draper thunders a forehand winner down the line. 40-30.
Deuce, as Musetti sends a forehand long. He hasn’t hit a good shot since I said he was playing better now.
RIDICULOUS. Draper hangs in the point and then the forehand winner down the line lands just inside the baseline. So, so good. Set point.
To be fair to him, Musetti responds with a brilliant forehand of his own. Deuce.
Draper 5-2* Musetti
19:48 , Matt VerriChaotic point, net cord leaves Draper scrambling and he nearly crashes into a box at the side of the court in the process. More importantly for him, he lost the point. 15-15.
Couple of cheap points behind the serve are very welcome for Draper, as he he continues to dominate this set.
Musetti slaps a forehand into the net and Draper is a game away from taking the opener.
Draper *4-2 Musetti
19:45 , Matt VerriMusetti has to go for a miracle pass down the line, can’t make it. Draper is all over his serve.
Saying that, Draper finds the net with that backhand return. Throws his head up in frustration - 30-15.
Musetti then very nearly finds a way to lose the point having had a simple overhead at the net, but he eventually gets the job done.
And the Italian holds with a lovely drop shot. His first hold of the match.
Draper 4-1* Musetti
19:40 , Matt VerriDraper’s box calling for him to use that serve out wide that slides away from Musetti more. Pulls it off perfectly.
Again with the second serve, Musetti can’t get the return back. 30-30, still a bit of danger for Draper in this game.
Briton once again lands the ball right on the baseline, it bounces up nearly head height on Musetti. He’s looking fairly fed up.
Especially when Draper then wraps up a hold to consolidate his break.
Draper *3-1 Musetti
19:36 , Matt VerriMusetti getting very agitated with himself and anyone else who will listen. Poor backhand error gifts Draper a second break point.
And he takes this one!
Musetti can only slice into the net and he’s been broken in both his service games.
Draper 2-1* Musetti
19:35 , Matt VerriLoose backhand from Draper flies long but there are plenty of encouraging signs for him. He has the power to dominate these rallies.
Musetti tries to force the issue, forehand is a long way out. Glares at his box to pass on the blame for that one... and again next point when he slaps it into the net. 30-30.
Another double fault from Musetti, pegs him back to deuce. It’s all hard work for him at the moment.
Musetti shows good hands at the net, but Draper then hammers a forehand winner past him. Back to deuce.
And break point now, after a wonderful shot from Draper lands bang on the baseline.
Draper has his head in his hands... runs down the drop shot easily but then makes a mess of flicking it back over the net. Third deuce.
Draper 2-1* Musetti
19:27 , Matt VerriBit of pressure now on the Draper serve. Goes for the drop shot but doesn’t pull it off this time, 0-30.
Good response from Draper, he’s dominating the exchanges from the baseline. Another flat crosscourt backhand proves too good. 30-30.
But it’s a break point for Musetti, goes for the pass and Draper can’t pull off the volley at the net.
Stunning! Massive forehand winner from Musetti and we’re immediately back on serve.
Draper *2-0 Musetti
19:22 , Matt VerriNow Draper can get to work on the Musetti serve. Loose shot from the Italian and he’s immediately under pressure at 0-30.
Make that three break points! Brilliant backhand winner from Draper to end a bruising rally. Moved up in the court so well there.
Musetti’s first serve saves one of the break points... but he follows it with a double fault!
Early break for Draper.
Draper 1-0* Musetti
19:17 , Matt VerriBig forehand from Draper sets up the point and he’s confident enough under the overhead. Already Musetti spending a lot of time behind the baseline.
Obvious that the Briton is trying to be aggressive at every opportunity, but that forehand is wild. Musetti then follows it up with a lovely flat backhand down the line. 30-30.
And it’s break point - good depth forces the Draper error.
That’ll play... ace to save it from Draper. Deuce.
There’s the hold for the Briton, big serve out wide doesn’t come back. Had to work for that.
Here we go...
19:12 , Matt VerriEnough of that.
Time for some tennis. Perfect conditions, Draper to serve first.
Settle in.
Bringing the energy!
19:11 , Matt VerriI wasn’t joking about the announcer giving it everything he has.
“Please welcome from London, LONDON, it’s time for Jack, Jack, Jack DRAPEEEEEEEEEEER.”

They’ve really jazzed up the coin toss. It spins virtually on the big screen and eventually declares that Musetti has won it.
He chooses to receive, so Draper will serve at the start of this semi-final.
Time for a quick warm-up.
Here we go!
19:06 , Matt VerriAnnouncer clearly auditioning for a UFC or boxing gig.
Losing his voice as he screams Jack Draper’s name, with the Briton and Lorenzo Musetti now out.
Draper has already beaten two Italians this week - can he complete the hat-trick?

Not long now...
18:57 , Matt VerriJack Draper bouncing around in the gym as he finishes up his warm-up.
I won’t go full body language expert and tell you how nervous or otherwise he looks.
My professional opinion is he looks... normal.
Ten-minute warning!
18:51 , Matt VerriStart getting yourselves ready...
Just under ten minutes until Draper and Musetti stroll out onto the court.
Reminder that it is Casper Ruud waiting for the winner in the final.
Another big title for Draper?
18:39 , Matt VerriThe British No1 is of course eyeing a second Masters 1000 title in the space of a couple of months.
He won at Indian Wells in March, beating the likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz and Holger Rune on his way to lifting the trophy.
Another big, big prize is now within reach in 2025 - shaping up to be a pretty decent year!

Promising signs for Roland Garros
18:30 , Matt VerriJack Draper has never previously won a main-draw match at the French Open.
First-round exits in both the previous two years, but this form in Madrid suggests he is capable of a deep run at Roland Garros.
Then it’s the small matter of the grass-court season and Wimbledon, where he will be a very, very popular man.
Can Draper make it 4-0?
18:19 , Matt VerriThe head-to-head record makes good reading for Jack Draper.
Three times he’s played Lorenzo Musetti, and three times he’s beaten Lorenzo Musetti.
Those wins have all come on indoor hard courts, though. The Madrid clay is a very different test.

Draper ready to 'bully' opponents
18:09 , Matt VerriJack Draper has spoken about the physical progress he has made this year, enabling him to go toe-to-toe with the world’s best.
The 23-year-old at times struggles with his fitness early in his career, but that is no longer a concern for him when he steps on court.
"The next part of my game was just getting strong, getting more capable physically to do the things I know I can do and bully these guys,” Draper said.
“My forehand is doing a lot of damage, and I want to keep it up.
"I have been doing everything in all areas pretty well and am excited to keep on going. Hopefully, it keeps coming together.
"I am just well prepared. I work really hard every day and do all the right things off the court and on the court. When I go out to play, I have a feeling it is going to be ok because I have prepared so well."
On the rise!
17:59 , Matt VerriJack Draper started this week sixth in the world rankings, and he has already guaranteed he will move into the top five for the first time.
The Briton will go above Novak Djokovic, leaving him behind only Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz.
Decent company to keep...

Ruud waiting for the winner
17:49 , Matt VerriCasper Ruud will face whoever comes out on top this evening in the final.
The Norwegian is also yet to drop a set this week and he continued that run going with victory over Francisco Cerundolo in the first semi-final.
Wasn’t easy for Ruud - he saved 15 break points in the two sets!

Standard Sport prediction
17:40 , Matt VerriJack Draper is the slight betting favourite, despite Lorenzo Musetti being more naturally comfortable on the clay.
It’s hard to back against the Briton right now, who is playing with such freedom and aggression in taking the match to every opponent he plays.
This could be his first three-set match of the week, but we’re going for Draper to get the job done and reach the final.
Draper to win in three sets.
