Ja’Wuan James agrees to terms with Denver, expected to sign tomorrow

The writing was on the wall this whole time. The Miami Dolphins’ bid to keep Ja’Wuan James as a part of the organization was always going to be dependent on one thing: cost.

The Dolphins were reportedly apprehensive last spring about paying James the nearly $9.5M he played for in 2018. So now? Hitting the open market? This was always going to be an uphill battle.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported last night that James has agreed to terms with the Denver Broncos and is expected to finalize the deal tomorrow. James’ contract is for 4-years and worth $52M. $32M of that contract is expected to be guaranteed money.

That makes James the highest paid right tackle in the NFL in both average per year and guaranteed per year money, surpassing Philadelphia’s Lane Johnson.

Where will the Dolphins go from here at right tackle? Expect the NFL Draft to be in play, particularly with one of their first two selections in hopes of securing a starter.
