Ivan Toney makes Celtic claim as Brentford star suggests transfer miss cost 10 In A Row

Ivan Toney has suggested Celtic's failure to get a deal done ended up costing them 10 In A Row.

The 25-year-old has 28 goals in 40 games for Brentford since joining the Championship club from Peterborough last summer.

Celtic were heavily interested in signing Toney and it's believed the deal was almost complete, only for the Hoops to decide against it and turn their attention elsewhere.

They ended up signing Albian Ajeti from West Ham instead and the Swiss frontman has just six goals in 30 games for the club since signing.

And Toney revealed he spoke to Neil Lennon and the hierarchy at Celtic Park, with a deal close to being agreed but it just couldn't be finalised.

He told FourFourTwo: "Yeah, that was close. I spoke to a few people there, and I spoke to the managers.

"We just couldn’t get a deal over the line."

Celtic struggled in the league this season with Odsonne Edouard failing to hit form earlier in the season, while Ajeti and Leigh Griffiths had fitness issues.

Rangers ended up cruising to the league title and had it sewn up in March, with a 20 point lead over their rivals.

And Toney insists it wouldn't have happened if Celtic had decided to get the deal for him done.

He added: "It would have been different, that’s all I’ll say."
