CHICAGO _ The White Sox moved Yoan Moncada to the cleanup spot Monday against the Marlins.
It worked out.
Moncada had two hits, including a three-run homer, and four RBIs as the Sox beat the Marlins 9-1 in front of 14,741 at Guaranteed Rate Field.
The Sox hit four homers while Ivan Nova allowed one run on four hits in a complete-game victory.
Moncada has been the team's No. 2 hitter for a large part of the season.
Manager Rick Renteria expressed confidence in Moncada's ability to adapt to the role before the game.
"He's a guy that can hit anywhere from first to fifth in the lineup," Renteria said. "He's got speed, power and he can get on base.
"There's a lot of things he can do. If we are able to get some other guys ahead of him on base, maybe he can drive in some runs and continue to push us forward."
Moncada knocked in Jose Abreu with a single during a two-run first inning.
Abreu hit a two-run homer in the third to make it 4-1. Abreu finished with three RBIs.
Moncada hit the three-run homer in the fifth. It was his 18th home run, establishing a new career high for a season.
James McCann and Ryan Goins hit back-to-back homers in the sixth as the Sox followed up their seven-game losing streak with their third victory in four games.
