ITV This Morning viewers point out embarrassing problem as Rishi Sunak is asked about his McDonald's order

This Morning viewers wasted no time in calling out Rishi Sunak as he made an error when discussing his McDonald's order. The former Chancellor of the Exchequer appeared on the ITV daytime programme where he was interviewed live in the studio by hosts Rochelle Humes and Andi Peters.

He appeared on the show as the battle for Number 10 continues for him and his Tory leadership opponent Liz Truss. With just 18 days left before Britain gets a new Prime Minister, the hosts said they'd put viewers' questions to him to help them decide if he is the right person for the job.

Mr Sunak is in the running to be the next prime minister of the UK following Boris Johnson announcing he was to stand down in July. But the interview hasn't impressed fans, as amongst discussing current issues including the cost of living crisis, and rising inflation, the pair asked Rishi about whether he liked fish and chips and his go-to McDonald's order.

However, the chat started with Mr Sunak sharing his excitement at being on the show and being interviewed by Andi. "This is the most exciting interview I’ve done on this campaign," he explained. Aked why, he said: "Eell, because I grew up with Andi! It was the broom cupboard, it was Ed the Duck! That was my childhood… Byker Grove, Blue Peter, Newsround and onto Neighbours…"

After learning about his upbringing and his parents being immigrants who came to Britain in the sixties, with his dad being a GP, and his mother working in a pharmacy in Southampton, Rishi then explained how the ‘race to Downing Street’ was going and felt it wasn’t over yet.

He said: "I’m out and about across the country every day and I’ve probably done almost one hundred events and feels like I’ve been round our country twice over at this point and the reception I’m getting is really positive. I’m talking to people about my ideas for the future, about how we get a grip on inflation because right now that is the number one thing on people’s minds, and how my plans to tackle it are the right ones.

"How we’re going to help particularly the most vulnerable over the winter, because that’s going to be tough. And how we’ll grow our economy so this doesn't happen again. I really passionately believe that my plans are the right ones for the country and I’m going to fight hard till the last day of this."

Rochelle and Andi spoke to the Tory leadership hopeful on the ITV show (ITV)

On the recent comments made by Liz Truss about British workers needing ‘more graft’, Rishi said, “I don’t think that’s the issue at the moment. People are working their socks off to provide for their families at the moment…” At the end of the interview, Rochelle was also instructed to point out: "We should also say that we have reached out to Liz Truss for an interview…"

However, prior to the interview coming to a close, Rochelle and Andi asked Mr Sunak about his McDonald's order after he was pictured at one of the fast-food chain's restaurants yesterday (Wednesday). He posted an image of him paying for his meal on his Instagram Stroy and wrote: "Nailed it," across it.

It comes months after he was mocked for holding his contactless card to the machine incorrectly during an appearance at a Sainsbury's petrol station. "Technology these days.," he laughed before Andi reeled off his McDonald's order and turned to Rochelle to share hers.

They then posed the question to Mr Sunak who said the picture was taken in the morning and so he got a 'bacon roll with ketchup and pancakes'. Rochelle then replied: "Hashbrown or no hashbrowns," to which he said he didn't yesterday but: "If I'm with my daughter we get the wrap.

"My eldest daughter... we get the wrap with the hashbrown in it. That's what we do," he added. But he was quickly called out on social media as those also visiting the golden arches pointed out the fast food chain no longer offers them at breakfast.

@victory_ayoka tweeted: "Funny, Rishi Sunak on @thismorning talking about the @McDonalds breakfast wrap which no longer exists. Must have been a long time since he went last! But I really miss it too, see if we can get him to bring them back #ThisMorning." @elllltweets echoed: "Rishi Sunak on #ThisMorning talking about enjoying the breakfast wrap at mcdonalds... someone tell him and his kids that it was removed from the menu in 2020..."

@snigskitchen shared: "So, Rishi Sunak said on This Morning that he and his daughter buy the breakfast wrap at McDonald's. Trouble is, they were discontinued in 2020. He can't even be genuine about what he eats for breakfast, trying the play at being a regular guy." @Melissa5857 laughed: "Good morning Rishi. McDonald’s breakfast wraps have been off the menu since March 2020. Nailed it? Nah."
