ITV This Morning's Phillip Schofield tells viewers why Alison Hammond was nearly arrested

Phillip Schofield revealed why Alison Hammond was nearly arrested by Italian police on Tuesday morning.

The former Big Brother star regularly presents the competition segments on This Morning.

On June 25, the Disney Cruise ship the 44-year-old had been sailing around on, pulled into Italy.

The film crew decided to come live from the Leaning Tower of Pisa, but while live Italian police told them to stop filming and moved them on.

Alison said: "Look guys, we haven't got a permit, we are not allowed to film here. I'm gonna get arrested. I love you all. Laters."

She then turned to two officers, trying to smooth things over and said: "I am so sorry. Buongiorno."

Presenters Holly Willoughby and Phil were shocked back in the studio, Phil left open mouthed.

They cut back to the mum-of-one who said she was 'still shaking', but the police approached her again, ushering her to move on.

Fearing an arrest, Alison bolted down the street away from the law and the camera operator.

On today's show, Phil and Holly were talking TV chef Gino D'Acampo who said he was in Pisa just days before Alison.

He said: "Just saying 'Buongiorno, please' isn't going to get you anywhere."

Gino added that the Italian police have clamped down on filming permits in recent months.

But Phil said: "We did have a permit, but they just didn't believe us."

Luckily for Alison, they did not arrest her and she is now safe and well back a board the luxury vessel.
