ITV The Chase viewers shocked after Mark Labbett's mentions Phillip Schofield

The Chase viewers were left stunned after Phillip Schofield was mentioned on the quiz show’s latest episode. Host Bradley Walsh was joined by four contestants on Wednesday, June 14's edition of the ITV quiz show.

Hilary, Dickie, Eleanor and Paddy went head to head against Mark Labbett in an attempt to reach the Final Chase for a huge cash prize. The quizzers all managed to get ahead of The Beast and booked their spot in the Final Chase with a total of £25,000, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The team was in top form after building up 20 steps. The Chaser desperately tried to catch up when Bradley asked: "Who presented the ITV game show, Small Fortune?"

Mark quickly answered Phillip Schofield, but this was to be incorrect as it was Dermot O'Leary. Mark's attempts to catch the team were unsuccessful as he could only build up 17 steps.

However, viewers of the show were left distracted by the mention of the former This Morning host who quit ITV after he admitted having an affair with a younger male colleague. James tweeted: "Philip Schofield? bad timing!" Steve added: "Schofield klaxon."

Yesterday's (June 14) edition of the Chase was a repeat that first aired on February 3, 2021. However, it was broadcast on the day ITV bosses, Dame Carolyn McCall and managing director Kevin Lygo, have faced questions from MPs about the former This Morning host's exit from the programme during a Culture, Media and Sport Committee session.
