ITV The Chase viewers accuse team of being 'gleeful' as young player eliminated

ITV The Chase viewers were stunned tonight by a young player's performance on the show and claimed her fellow teammates were "gleeful" when she was knocked out.

The popular quiz show sees a team of four strangers go up against the eponymous Chaser in a bid to win a cash prize.

Contestant Katie, 24, stunned viewers in tonight's episode, which was a repeat, when she earned just £1,000 in her cash builder round.

She was offered a low offer of minus £1,000 by Chaser Anne "the Governess" Hegerty and despite her team telling her not to take the minus offer, Katie accepted it.

Chaser Anne said: "Let's just say I'm not surprised."

Katie was eliminated by Anne in the head to head.

Players who take the low offer often cause controversy on the smash hit quiz show.

Viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One fan tweeted: "If you take the minus offer you do not deserve to be in the final".

Heather said: "You could see the glee on their faces when she got caught!"

Josh added: "Bet the team are happy to see the back of her. Taking the minus offer."

Kaitlyn said: "She got caught and for her, #TheChase is OVER thank god for that. For taking the lower offer, she didn't deserve to go through."

Yousaf said: "Katie has to be one of the worst ever contestants She literally knew nothing about any subject. Quite an art."

Another viewer commented: "Cheeriebye Katie! That's what you get for taking the minus offer and ruining everyone's day".

And another said: "Did she seriously go for a minus?! Who the hell does that!"

Ceri added: "No real loss to the team there".

*The Chase airs on ITV every weekday at 5pm
