ITV The Chase under fire over 'record-breaker's brutal' treatment

The Chase came under fire from fans after a unexpected turn of events in today's show.

Bradley Walsh returned in the hosting seat to front Tuesday's edition of the popular ITV programme. The 62-year-old welcomed four new quizzers, who were aiming to win a huge cash prize.

Dechlan, Marryk, Jess and Trudi were testing their wits against Anne Hegerty in a bid to win today's jackpot. Dechlan started off in fine form as he booked his place in the Final Chase with £5,000.

Marryk was up next and he stunned with an amazing cash-builder as he earned £10,000. Bradley was quick to praise the 41-year-old after his performance.

He said: "Let me tell you Marryk. You're good. Five figures in the cash-builder doesn't happen very often." Fans following the show on Twitter agreed and said he may have set a new record.

Ribrox said: "Marryk should be a chaser"

Tommie tweeted: "Never ever seen someone get 10k on the chase before.. clever man."

VNG said: "Never seen 10 grand before!!"

And DJ tweeted: "This guy got £10,000 for what feels like the first I’ve ever seen."

Marryk resisted the temptation to go for the higher offer and tried to book his place in the final with £10,000. However, Bradley was stunned when he swiftly exited the show after he did not get a single question correct.

He said: "I've never seen that. A five figure player not get a question right at the table. That is an amazing turn of the game."

However, fans following the show on Twitter criticised the questions Marryk was asked in the head-to-head.

Tom said: "Poor lad. Those questions were terrible."

Cass added: "Them questions were brutal!

Dechlan was joined by Trudi in the last round as they were competing for a combined total of £13,000. They built up 15 steps but left empty-handed when they were caught with 40 seconds remaining.
