ITV The Chase's Paul Sinha hits out at Twitter trolls

Chaser Paul Sinha has hit out at nasty trolls on Twitter.

In a series of Tweets, he has called for attacks on contestants of the ITV quiz show over the social media platform to end.

Online abuse towards the players flooded in on Twitter after the episode on Wednesday (February 2) where one contestant chose a huge minus offer.

The Chaser had had enough and asked social media users to respect people taking part.

In his posts he said: "Last night's Chase was a classic. A brilliant team posted 23, and were desperately unlucky to find @MarkLabbett in imperious form. You'd never necessarily guess this from the spite on the hashtag.

"We get paid well, and as such put up with a lot of jibes, even if the "fix" "thrown the questions" nonsense does get wearying. The contestants, however, are normal people thrown into a high pressure situation. With both Chasers and contestants...."

He added: "What you see is an edited version of a recording any time within the last two years. During that time, society was turned upside down, and those watching have no idea what stresses, physical or mental, anyone is under.

"And so it needs to be repeated until people understand - we are all trying our best in a pressure situation. And as such the spite shown on here at people for appearance, accent, ability, confidence or lack thereof, wrong buzzes and especially lower offers, is disproportionate."

Paul explained that contestants are advised not to look at Twitter due to a risk of it affecting their mental health negatively because they were "brave enough to go on a quiz show".

He added: "It's telly. It's entertainment. And it's an edited snapshot of the past.

"If it makes you post objectionably, and angrily, that was way more about you than the contestants or the Chasers. We're trying our best."

Supporting his fellow Chaser, Mark Labbett also retweeted the post.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV and ITV Hub
