ITV star Cobra 'only half a Gladiator now' after three-week stay in hospital

Many people will have fond memories of watching hit show Gladiators.

It was a 90s Saturday night phenomenon which saw members of the public compete against the show's 'Gladiators', who were towers of strength.

But now the very sad news has been reported that one of the programme's stars is seriously ill in hospital.

In words which will sadden any fan of the ITV show, he even said he is "only half a Gladiator now".

Cobra - whose real name is Michael Wilson - is reportedly suffering with pneumonia and other serious health conditions, Birmingham Live reports.

Michael is also being treated for pleurisy, a condition caused by inflamed tissue around the lungs, and a ruptured bicep.

It has also been reported he needs two new hips having destroyed his body through his workouts.

The 55-year-old told The Sun that he was rushed into care three weeks ago.

He said: "I'm only half a Gladiator now.

"It’s been touch and go.

"I don’t feel like I’m kicking the bucket at the minute, but it will only take another cold or cough and I’m in trouble.

"I’m isolated in my own ward. It goes to show - you never know what’s round the corner."

After the show, Michael Wilson competed against South Africa in the Springbok Challenge - a battle Royale between British and South African Gladiators.

The star, who lives in Kent, added: "I pushed the limit and listened to silly Arnold Schwarzenegger saying you’ve got to take more pain than your competitors."

And he says he had a lot of injuries during his time on the programme, including fracturing his hip and spinal problems.
