ITV's Vera set for grim River Tyne discovery as next episode plot 'leaks'

Vera is set to take a dark turn this weekend, with a grim discovery on the banks of the River Tyne, as the drama's return delighted fans on Sunday night.

After a near year-long hiatus from screens, the hit ITV show finally arrived back in its usual Sunday night slot, right after the launch of the new series of Dancing on Ice.

The fact that Vera was taken off air at the start of 2022, midway through its 11th series, there had been some confusion over when it would return and what happened to the 'missing' episodes, especially given the fact they were available for American viewers to watch via BritBox.

The first of those remaining episodes kicked off Vera's return on Sunday, with Vital Signs attracting millions of viewers as Brenda Blethyn's DCI Stanhope attempted to get to the bottom of the mystery of a GP's body being found in the back of a burnt out car. There were many twists and turns over the course of the two hour story, leaving Vera fans full of anticipation for what's to come in the rest of the new episodes.

Well details of the final part of series 11, The Way The Wind Blows, have now leaked online, with Vera tasked with solving another grisly death, this involving a body washed up by the River Tyne.

A teaser for the episode, which will air on Sunday, January 22, reads: "When the body of Lisa Millworth is found washed up on the shore of the River Tyne, DCI Vera Stanhope questions who would want a beloved mother, loyal friend and popular manager at a green energy company dead. With few clues to launch her inquiry, Vera soon learns that Lisa has been in the middle of a storm both professionally and personally."

The rather cryptic preview adds: "As Vera and the team piece together Lisa’s final movements, Vera must delve deep into her chequered past as well as deal with more recent and potentially deadly problems that Lisa has been up against. Unresolved wounds, grievances, betrayal, misplaced loyalty and corporate cover ups all bubble to the surface which means Vera has to work harder than ever to zero in on the killer."
