ITV's Emmerdale and Coronation Street's highest paid soap stars

Stars of some of ITV's biggest soaps entertain the nation every weekday evening - and some of their salaries reflect their importance to programme-makers.

Coronation Street and Emmerdale have created household names such as Bill Roache, Danny Miller and Jack P Shepherd.

But with them appearing on our screens so much, how much are they actually paid to star in some of the nation's favourite shows?

Across ITV soaps Emmerdale and Coronation Street, the pay structure is basically the same, as actors get a fee per episode, which can range from £400 to £2,000, with a guaranteed number of episodes a year (as few as 30 or as many as 100) and a repeat fee.

Salaries can therefore range from £12,000 to well over £200,000 depending on popularity.

We took a look at how each soap pays its cast and who are the highest paid actors from each programme.

Coronation Street

Jack P Shepherd

Jack P Shepherd who plays David Platt is reportedly the highest paid earner on the show.

The Mirror reported in October 2018 that Jack had been awarded a bumper new contract worth £250,000. That’s £30,000 more than his previous deal.

He's grown up on screen, first appearing aged 12, and has recently celebrated 20 years of being a part of the cast.

Simon Gregson

The Cobbles legend, who plays Steve McDonald is reportedly another of the higher earners on Corrie.

Simon has been with the cast of Coronation Street since 1989, being one of the longest serving cast members, and has been part of various hard-hitting storylines and plenty of comedy ones too.

He is reportedly earning around earning £150,000 in his role.

William Roache

Known for playing Ken Barlow, Bill Roache has spent the longest time ever on the soap and has been a part of the show since it very first aired.

While the actor will turn 90 in April, there’s no sign of him slowing down from his role on the cobbles as it was reported earlier this year that executives were looking to sign him up for another year in a bumper deal worth six figures.

There are reportedly huge storyline plans to mark his special birthday.

Emmerdale

Emmerdale seems to be a bit more tight-lipped than Coronation Street about stars' salaries, but it was reported earlier this year that Matthew Wolfenden (David Metcalfe) and Lucy Pargeter (Chas Dingle) were reported to be in the running for pay hikes.

Danny Miller’s character Aaron Dingle has appeared in more than 1,400 episodes of the show therefore he would have racked up a fair salary over his 13 years, going off the rate of £400 to £2,000 per episode.
