ITV Love Island fans predict who will replace Laura Whitmore after she quits show

Love Island fans have began sharing their predictions for who might replace Laura Whitmore as the host.

The Irish presenter shared an announcement via Instagram on Monday night as she decided to step down from the ITV2 dating show. She said her decision comes after finding "certain elements of the show very difficult."

The 37-year-old explained she was only supposed to fill in for one series, following the death of her close friend Caroline Flack, but ended up on three instead. She paid tribute to the former presenter and hoped she had done Caroline proud.

Now, fans of the show are already speculating who could be next to take the helm. Taking to Twitter, they shared their hopes and demands for who they wanted to see on the next series.

It seems that most viewers want a former contestant to take the reins of the ITV2 programme with many backing this year's winner, Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu. Fifth series contestant, Maura Higgins, is also a favourite to take the spot.

Charlotte said: "Top 3 to be in the running to replace Laura Whitmore… @ekinsuofficial @MayaJama and @MauraHiggins #loveisland." Tasha said: "Nella Rose, Maura Higgins, Maya Jama and Ekin Su are my top four candidates to replace Laura Whitmore as love island host #loveisland."

Maria said: "If I had a top 3 on who I'd want to replace Laura Whitmore it would be… Maya Jama, AJ Ododu or Ekin su i’d love Ekin Su especially to host it but I doubt they would let her #loveisland." Meanwhile, Aimi said: "Petition for Ekin Su to host winter LI now that laura gone #LoveIsland."

Previously, Laura Whitmore described the spotlight on her hosting Love Island as “exhausting and tough”. The Irish TV presenter labelled the focus on her “unfair”, particularly on social media, where she said being a woman is “scary”, adding men are not treated the same way, reported The Mirror.

The Celebrity Juice star told the Distraction Pieces podcast: “it’s just a bit exhausting sometimes because some of the stuff is just mental. As a host, this takes up a huge amount of my time compared to my other work. It’s over eight weeks.

“The host only comes on three or four times, it’s always been the way, but it gets the most attention. It’s a bit exhausting and it’s tough.”
