ITV Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid steps in to issue Ofcom warning after remark

Susanna Reid said she was going to check the Ofcom guidelines as she shut down a debate on Good Morning Britain.

The broadcaster fronted today's edition of the ITV news programme alongside Ed Balls. The two anchored a discussion on whether the monarchy was out of touch after the first portraits of the Royal family were released after King Charles III's coronation.

They were joined by lawyer Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu, who claimed the Royal family was an outdated concept. She said: "Slimming down the monarch is an insult to our intelligence.

"It sends a powerful message of maintaining the hierarchical divide of class, race wealth and privilege." The lawyer was in hysterics as she criticised Saturday's ceremony at Westminster.

"King Charles had the audacity to ask us to swear an allegiance to him when he's the one who should have been giving an oath of service to us." Dr Shola was in disbelief when Ed asked if she swore her allegiance to the King.

She said: "Hell to the frig no." Richard Fitzwilliams disagreed with the claims and said the Royal family was still an important part of British society.

However, the guests became embroiled in a fiery row as they spoke over each other before Susanna stepped in. She said: "I have to bring it to an end."

Ed joked he was traumatised as it reminded him of of being in the House of Commons and quoted Dr Shola when Susanna asked if he was being serious. He said: "The frig I am."

Susanna warned her co-host after the comment as she joked: "Steady. I'm going to double check the Ofcom for that one."
