ITV Good Morning Britain confirms new presenter in post-Christmas shake-up

Good Morning Britain viewers are used to seeing a number of familiar faces taking over the show as the main host following Piers Morgan's exit last year. The ITV news programme is regularly hosted by Susanna Reid, Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard but as it is Kate and Ben who regularly host together, it's Susanna who is often joined by a new co-host.

Martin Lewis, Richard Madeley, Adil Ray, Ed Balls and Robert Rinder have all become part of the show's roster of male hosts taking on the main gig. But this week, a new face is being added to the mix.

GMB has confirmed that broadcaster Gordon Smart will be making his main presenting debut on the show. The journalist, editor and broadcaster will present alongside Charlotte Hawkins on Thursday (December 29) and Friday (December 30) when the show returns to ITV and ITVX from 6am.

Gordon has become a familiar figure in the world of broadcasting, regularly hosting afternoon shows on talkSPORT and BBC Radio Scotland, his own evening show on Radio X and Weekend Breakfast on BBC Radio 5 Live.

He made his name by becoming the youngest editor of The Sun’s Bizarre Showbiz column when he was only 26 years old. Voted Showbiz Reporter of The Year in 2012, Gordon was soon appointed editor of The Scottish Sun, the highest-selling newspaper in Scotland and in 2016, Gordon became deputy editor of the National Edition.

Of his new role, Gordon commented: "‘I'm thrilled to be joining the amazing stable of talent, in front and behind the camera, on Good Morning Britain. So many of the issues facing the country right now are close to home and I’m relishing the chance to join the debate."

Before he makes his debut, Good Morning Britain will return live on Wednesday (December 28) following a brief Christmas break and will be presented by Charlotte and Rob Rinder. I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’s Scarlette Douglas will also be joining the team as she steps in for Richard Arnold.

The TV presenter, who appeared on this year's edition of the ITV reality show, will be on hand to shine a spotlight on the latest in showbiz and entertainment news throughout the week.
