Emmerdale fans were quick to clock a 'slip-up' as Nicky tried to impress the mother-in-laws. The nanny has lost his job at Home Farm after he revealed his relationship with Gabby Thomas, whose son he has been employed to look after. The character, played by Lewis Cope, made his first appearance in the Dales back in December.
And after initially refusing Gabby's advances due to his professionalism, viewers of the ITV soap recently watched Nicky cave to his feelings and the pair have been keeping their blossoming romance going. But during Monday night's edition of Emmerdale (April 3), after already being caught out by Caleb Milligan, Gabby and Nicky decided to come clean to Kim Tate as well as her mum Bernice Blackstock and former step-mum Laurel Thomas.
Kim wasn't impressed and wasn't long before she was instructing that his working contract with them be terminated. Gabby desperately tried to get Kim to see things differently and it wasn't long before Nicky spoke out in defence of his relationship with Gabby and declared his love for her.

Then in a shock twist, Nicky whipped out an engagement ring and got down on one knee to propose to Gabby who wasted no time in giving him a big 'yes!' During Tuesday night's episode of Emmerdale (April 4), Kim expressed her concerns that Nicky was just out for Gabby's money.
But as he wooed Laurel and Bernice, Gabby revealed that her fiance has already agreed to sign a prenuptial agreement. However, fans were flocking to social media when, during the celebratory lunch at The Woolpack, Nicky 'slipped-up' and appeared to almost expose his real identity.
He spoke briefly about his family and said of his parents being "happily married": "They were... sadly my mum passed away when I was 15," Nicky revealed. "It's one of the things that me and Gabby bonded over, losing a parent. That and wanting to provide for this little beauty [Gabby's son, Thomas]. My mum is beautiful," to which he quickly corrected himself with: "Was beautiful..."
@DionPetrie tweeted: "So his mums alive #Emmerdale." @deanobeanos commented: "Slipped up there saying mams pretty #Emmerdale." @Surfingspaniel shared: "Bet he lied about his Mum then with that slip of the tongue #Emmerdale." @deedurkin33 said: "So Nicky's Mum isn't dead. I wonder who she is..." to which @nickiewj added: "Slip of the tongue when he said 'is' then 'was'!"
And while some Emmerdale fans think that Nicky is "100%" related or connected some way to Caleb, others think there is a 'blatant' twist involving Gabby's ex Jamie Tate, who is also the father of her son, Thomas, and the son of Kim.
