ITV Emmerdale fans distracted by David Metcalfe blunder as they're left divided over Leyla blame

Emmerdale fans were left distracted as they spotted a David Metcalfe blunder as he rushed to rescue his son not knowing he had been stabbed. Viewers of the ITV soap were keen to know if Jacob Gallagher had survived his injuries after he was impaled with a kitchen knife by drug dealer Callum.

Jacob had contacted Callum after he discovered his mum, Leyla Cavanagh, had attempted to break her sobriety from drugs and met up with him to get a fix. Over New Year, Leyla confessed her true feelings to her estranged husband Liam. However, to the local GP, their relationship wasn't salvageable and he turned her down before prompting her to fill out their divorce papers.

Viewers then later saw her heartbroken and searching for her handbag for drugs but when all she found was an empty packet, she called her former drug dealer, Callum, and met him for more. But as she contemplated taking it, Jacob arrived and angrily hit out at his mum for going back to drugs, despite her innocent pleas.

The teen then ended up locking Leyla in her room and faked a text to Callum from his mum saying she needed more drugs. When he came face to face with Callum, the teen pulled out a knife and threatened to slit his throat. And things quickly went wrong for the uni student as a tussle resulted in Jacob being stabbed in the stomach.

Callum then rushed away and left Jacob crying and bleeding in the remote area. It wasn't until David came to Leyla's looking for him that they eventually realised something bad had happened. After lying to David about their row, she checked her phone and saw a text had been sent to Callum, but not by her.

They then rushed to the meeting spot and a horrified David found Jacob unconscious and covered in blood after being left out all night. Fearing they were running out of time, David and Leyla decided to rush Jacob to the hospital themselves where he underwent surgery and remained in a critical condition.

They were joined by Eric Pollard and Liam at the hospital where the truth about how Jacob ended up being in that position led to Leyla being blamed. David then later said he'd never speak to her again and told her to leave.

But during the rescue scenes, Emmerdale viewers appeared distracted by David and his attire for the search. @Nikkdthomas tweeted: "#Emmerdale why has David still got his apron on." @Ben6987 wrote: "Good job inspector dim David still has his apron on jacobs lost a lot of blood!! #emmerdale."

@ASG1000000 asked: "#emmerdale Couldn't David have taken his apron off?" @Berniedoll posted: "David in his apron ffs. #emmerdale." @deedurkin33 added: "Why does David always wear that stupid apron.. He works in a shop for crying out loud why does he need an apron that's nearly down to his ankles.."

But as the characters on-screen blamed Leyla, Emmerdale fans appear more divided and some spoke out in the character's defence. @debbielahiffe wrote: "Did David seriously lecture Leyla about lying to cover her tracks..... He is always lying to cover his mistakes."

@chloe.stewart2610 said: "I do feel bad for Leyla because she is going through a lot and what she done was her fault but for David to act like he didn’t deceive Victoria and lecture Leyla on lying, I am not defending what Leyla did but David has no room to speak."
