ITV Coronation Street's Elle Mulvaney says there's a 'first for everything' as she stuns in selfie amid praise for latest storyline

Coronation Street star Elle Mulvaney has been testing out a new look as she earns praise for her work on-screen. The actress is currently part of a big storyline for the ITV soap after her character Amy Barlow accused her friend Aaron Sandford of raping her.

In the shocking scenes aired last month, the flatmates were seen sharing a kiss after Aaron was on the rocks with his girlfriend Summer Spellman. Later after a celebration for his promotion as a mechanic at the garage ended abruptly when Aaron continued to squabble with Summer, the pair ended up drinking together back at their flat.

Events then took a dark turn as Amy went to the bedroom to find more booze and Aaron, played by James Craven, followed her. As they sat down on the bed Aaron complimented Amy and kissed her in the storyline exploring consent. Amy then admitted she felt sick and rolled away from him. But Aaron moved in closer and continued to kiss Amy, who was unaware of what was happening as he made the decision for her that they would have sex.

It wasn't until the following day she realised what had happened to her, but Aaron denied rape when she confronted him and got back with Summer. Amy had remained silent about her ordeal until Aaron was forced into telling Summer they slept together and she railed at Amy.

After also seeing what happened to Daisy Midgeley on her wedding day, Amy decided to tell her mum, Tracy Barlow, what had happened and after asking her to tell her dad, Steve, they headed to the police station where Amy gave a statement. She was later re-interviewed and it was DS Swain who delivered the news that they wouldn't be charging Aaron.

Then in scenes aired on Monday night (April 3), Tracy couldn't remain quiet and caused a ruckus as she plastered posters across the street about rapists. Tracy then demanded action after feeling Amy's report of rape wasn't taken seriously by the police but after being asked to leave the station, she glued her hand to the reception desk.

She was eventually unstuck and later, Amy heartbreakingly told her parents that she had come to the conclusion that what Aaron did wasn't rape and it was all just a mistake as she struggled with her parents' heartbroken reaction and not getting the justice she deserved.

And Corrie fans were flocking to social media to praise Elle for her portrayal. Script to Scene tweeted: "Poor Amy. @ElleJMulvaneyreally has matured into such a great actress and is handling this sensitive storyline with so much care I bet a lot of #Corrie fans are so proud of her."

@RyanTheSoapking shared: "I just want to hug Amy please give her justice #Corrie. A huge congratulations to @ElleJMulvaney for tonight's episode." @jennyluv__ added: "Wow Amazing scene chris gascoyne and @ElleJMulvaney take a bow @itvcorrie #Corrie."

Meanwhile, Elle is enjoying the brighter weather away from the cobbles and has been testing out some new looks. Taking to her Instagram Story on Monday (April 3), the soap star posed for a mirror selfie as she spared a white cap branded with 'Monaco' on the front.

As she smiled for the camera, while also sporting a green crop top and black blazer, she typed alongside the image: "Never been a hat girl but there's a first for everything." It came before she was flooded with compliments as she shared a fresh selfie to her main Instagram grid.

The 20-year-old looked gorgeous in a multi-coloured halter neck top which she paired with light jeans. Elle wore her hair in soft waves that framed her face while she opted for a light makeup look as she headed out with some friends, including Hollyoaks star Anya Lawrence. "Hey," she simply captioned the post as she beamed into the mirror for the selfie.

And the comments were soon being filled with both compliments and praise for the Corrie star. @tinaob83.fanpage said: "Look amazing." @mtowey commented: "You're a great actor. And very beautiful. Well done." @shaun.c1991 added: "Looking stunning."
