ITV Coronation Street's Alison King's Brookside roots, co-star ex and show exit fears

Alison King is one of Coronation Street's most famous faces.

The 49-year-old actor is renowned for her role as Carla Connor in Weatherfield. The character first arrived on the Cobbles in 2006 and quickly became a fan favourite on the show as she rose to the top of the Underworld factory.

Carla has played a key part in some of the soap's most dramatic storylines and has endured a rollercoaster marriage to Peter Barlow. The two are currently enjoying a settled period in their relationship, but Carla is about to face a new threat.

In episodes aired this week, Carla has engaged in a bitter dispute with Stephen Reid as he aims to get on top of his financial woes and once again rise to the top of the fashion world. Carla thwarted Stephen's plans and the final image of this week saw the character, played by Todd Boyce, shoot a sinister look in his boss' direction.

Carla does not know that Stephen is capable of murder and viewers following the show on Twitter are concerned she could be his next victim.

Toni said; "Oh blimey, I hope that wasn't a "you're my next victim" look from Stephen." Ralph added: "Is Carla going to be his next victim?"

Mike tweeted: "Stephen has picked his next victim… Carla" If fans fears are proved to be true, it would bring the curtain down on Alison's celebrated 17 year stint on the Cobbles.

Alison enjoyed a successful TV career before she joined the cast of Corrie as she played Lynda Block in Dream Team. The actress hails from Leicester but she got her start in Merseyside on the hit soap Brookside.

Alison appeared in one episode of the Channel 4 show in 1998 as a character named Helen. She has also previously appeared in Coronation Street in a different role as Mrs Fanshaw in 2004 before she eventually joined the show in her more familiar role as Carla two years later.

Carla keeps her life away from the Cobbles private as she does not have any social media channels. However, she was previously in a relationship with former Corrie actor, Phillip Middlemiss, who played Des Barnes on the Cobbles.

She has also previously been in a relationship with Jim Alexander, who played Jamie Parker in Dream Team.

Alison's career was kickstarted by the founder of Oldham's Theatre Workshop, David Johnson. She took to social media via her co-star, Antony Cotton, to issue a heartfelt tribute after her mentor's death last year.

She said: "R.I.P my absolute hero. My maker of all things that I am, and where I am today, my teacher, of who I was 27 years ago, years that taught my thing about myself that I never knew, but have carried with me to this date. You were strict and yet the kindest man to me I have ever known.

"You were intuitive, and insightful, and gave me and so many other I've loved and adored working with over the years, the opportunity to shine. You gave me my best friend Emma. If it wasn't for your I would never have had my beautiful daughter Daisy who is filled with love for the arts, a response of your teachings. And so many of us. David Johnson.

"From the day you started a term, with a good haircut and new shiny leather shoes, until the end of term, when they'd be curled up and your hair in a beautiful bouffant! Bigger than we all could cope with on a Monday morning. You were the sharpest, most aware human being of others creatively, and how to teach them to show it, I have ever known."
