ITV Coronation Street fans want to 'punch' character 'in the face' after shock fight

ITV Coronation Street fans were left furious after tonight's episode which saw a bust up between villain Gary Windass and Dr Ali Neeson.

Gary sought revenge on the doctor after he slept with his girlfriend, Maria.

Brutal builder Gary has quite the body count on the soap, after first causing Rana Habeeb's death by accident and then killing loan shark Rick Neelan last year.

Gary's latest scheme was a revenge plot which landed Dr Ali in hospital and on the brink of death.

After Dr Ali was suspended from his job, he confronted Gary on the famous cobbles in tonight's episode.

Gary said: "You kidnapped my fiancée and locked her in a car, this is about what you did."

After Ali accused Gary of dosing him with drugs to fake an overdose, Gary said: "You slept with my girlfriend, you got what you deserve."

The pair then broke into a fight and needed separating -  with Dr Ali ending up in handcuffs and arrested on suspicion of assualt.

As he was lead away by officers, a bloodied Gary is seen smirking at him.

On Twitter , fans were in uproar over the scenes.

Jason said: "There is something about Gary Windass. You just want to punch him right in his smirking face..."

Glenn said: "Someone please please please wipe that smirk off the Windass face"

Lesley commented: "Oh Gary...you absolutely deserved that!!"

Sherene added: "I can’t wait for everyone to know what a nasty piece of work Gary is."

Other fans referenced the cobbles' other villain, Geoff, who has been involved in a long-running coercive control domestic abuse storyline with his wife, Yasmeen.

Val said: "So once again Gary and Geoff are off scot free. How much longer will they drag this out?"

Kim said: "I can't decide who I hate the most. Gary or Geoff."

Another viewer speculated: "Geoff and Gary will get found out in the end!"

*Coronation Street will return to ITV on Friday at 7.30pm
