ITV Coronation Street fans threaten to 'switch off' over baby buying storyline as they finally recgonise new actress

Coronation Street fans expressed their dismay after Summer Spellman's came to light - and she was quickly asked to give up her unborn baby. There was a pregnancy riddle in the ITV soap earlier this week when a positive pregnancy test was found in a denim jacket which was sold at a charity clothes stall.

Gemma Winter smugly showed partner Chesney Brown a denim jacket she bought but the father-of-five was stunned when he went to get Gemma's phone out of the pocket and a positive pregnancy test fell out. He was relieved when she told him it wasn't her test. But the nosy barmaid was determined to get to the bottom of the mystery. First Daisy Midgeley and then Carla came under scrutiny.

When Gemma and Daisy challenged Carla, she and Peter roared with laughter. But later Paul Foreman recognised the jacket as belonging to Summer and went to confront her. He asked her about the test, and the 18-year-old admitted she was pregnant with Aaron Sandford, who had recently dumped her after being warned away by Paul.

He agreed to keep quiet and an emotional Summer went to tell Aaron and the pair fell back into each other's arms after Paul admitted to warning him off. But during Friday night's trip to the cobbles (October 21), the truth came out to Summer's guardian Billy Mayhew when Summer appeared ill during a meal at the Rovers with two of his parishioners.

Later in the episode, newbie Esther approached Summer and offered her an ear after noticing she was surrounded by men with three honourary dads after her own father's death. Esther ended up telling the teen about her struggles to conceive while offering the chance to take Summer's baby off her hands.

Mike soon joined Esther and the couple said that they will offer her a large sum of money if she went through with the pregnancy as a surrogate. Discussing the proposal with Aaron, Summer seemed to consider the couple's idea but Aaron also had floated the idea of the pair going through with the pregnancy and raising their child together.

However, Summer didn't appear to agree but told him that they could possibly raise a child one day, but for now, everything is too soon. After going back home and walking in on a conversation between Billy, Paul and Todd Grimshaw, Summer declared that she wanted to have an abortion.

But Corrie fans weren't happy with how the pregnancy quickly turned into a baby buying storyline - and complained it was 'creepy'. @see75 asked: "Anyone else finding this baby buying storyline creepy?! #corrie." @RyanGSoapKing11 commented: "I hope Summer dosnt give her baby away to that couple. They are so creepy. #Corrie." @Rozzy67 posted: "#Corrie this creepy couple wanting to 'buy' Summers baby us REALLY disturbing, if we're doing down a dark rabbit hole with this storyline I'm switching off!

Summer was stunned by the offer (ITV)

@ashlingcoogan fumed: "Sweet Jesus!!! She only found out yesterday!!! Billy just found out moments before(great guess by the way- 16 and nauseous- must be pregnant) and now these random people offer to buy her baby from her in the park!! Like for crying out loud- so ridiculous!!!!" @fayelouise21 shared: "Hasn't she just peed on a stick and now this wow bit fast!" @justme_30_01 added: "Why does Corrie have to make yet another couple with fertility issues look so desperate. It's ludicrous."

For others, it has only just clicked where they recognise the actress who plays Esther from. @riversgb20 asked: "Was she in Waterloo Road?" When @amyt3402 confirmed she was, she added: "You’re welcome, it’s been bugging me and took ages to figure it out." And @theodora_teddy_bichon added: "And in Heartbeat as Rosie she was the Car mechanic in Scrips Garage."

Vanessa Hehir is taking on the role of Esther. And as fans rightly pointed out, the actress played Sue Lowsley in the BBC One school drama and is also known for her work on Heartbeat, where she portrayed Rosie Cartwright for six years, between 2001 and 2007.
