ITV Coronation Street fans divided over missing death as soap ends in tears with Kelly's emotional exit

Coronation Street fans were convinced a week of drama on the cobbles was going to end in the loss of a character's life. And it appears viewers were divided when Friday night's edition (September 24) of the ITV soap when everyone just about made it out alive - at least for now.

Kelly Neelan and Gary Windass almost met an end when Kelly's plan to bump off her guardian in revenge for her dad's death went horribly wrong. The teen, played by Millie Gibson, discovered the truth about what happened to Rick Neelan three years ago. Instantly enraged and seeking revenge, she got in touch with her kidnapper and offered him £10,000 to kill Gary.

Earlier this week, during her and Aadi Alahan's extravagant engagement party at the Bistro, Kelly told Gary she knew he had killed her dad and when she legged it out of the restaurant, she led Gary straight into Kieron's path and it wasn't long before he was unconscious, bundled into the back of a van and back in the same woods where he murdered Rick.

But Kelly later had a change of heart and tried to get Kieron to stop with his plan while Gary dug his own grave. But she made a huge mistake when she told him the hotel she was at, as he soon arrived and kidnapped her- again.

Then, in the latest episode, viewers were shocked when Kelly's fiance Aadi got shot after he took a bullet for Kelly in a dramatic twist. With Kelly on the edge of a roof overlooking the city skyline, Kieron turned his gun on Kelly. He told her to jump before telling his associate to push her off.

Then as Gary arrived, Kieron told him that he would be shooting Kelly first before killing him. But as he fired the gun, Aadi appeared and shielded her from the bullet by running into its path. Without another bullet, and the sound of sirens, Kieron did a runner meaning Gary and Kelly could tend to a wounded Aadi.

Luckily, it was later revealed Aadi was OK and scenes showed him recovering in hospital following surgery, with the bullet having missed vital organs. But after arguing with his dad Dev to let her speak to him, Kelly broke Aadi's heart by finishing their engagement and romance on the spot.

And Corrie fans shared their sadness for poor Aadi. @ifeelflames tweeted: "Poor Aadi. He’s been in the wars enough with the car crash x cut him some slack #Corrie." @voidzzzzzzzzzzz said: "Imagine taking a bullet for a lass and then she dumps you while you’re in hospital poor Aadi absolutely unholy L #Corrie."

Later, viewers saw a lot of tears between Kelly and Gary. Kelly headed home to pack so she could leave the street with her one-way ticket to Thailand. But Gary begged her to listen to his side of the story, as he emotionally explained why he'd killed Rick all those years ago.

Kelly told Gary she wouldn't go to the police but that she couldn't forgive him for what he had done. And despite them both sharing an 'I love you', Kelly left and walked off down the street to start a new life while Gary broke down in Maria's arms.

And the scenes caused tears at home and also relief that Millie's exit as Kelly might not have to be a permanent one. @mishybabez_ tweeted: "Nah this Kelly and Gary scene I'm crying #Corrie." @lubbingJo said: "Aww pleased Kelly got a reasonably happy ending with a fresh start. Was convinced she wouldn’t, so was a surprise tonight #corrie." @ziabell commented: "Aw, that was actually quite sad, great last scene with Gary and Kelly @itvcorrie #corrie."

@Nicholstix shared: "I'm glad Kelly didn't die. I like the character and it's nice to know that there's a slight possibility she'll show up on the cobbles again once day. Also glad that Aadi survived his hero moment, I was worried there sad a second. #Corrie." @VixMJ950 posted: "So happy for the #corrie outcome yes Kelly can come back no deaths!!"

But not everyone was impressed. @merseytart tweeted: "So nobody died. What a marvelous waste of everyone's time that was. #Corrie." @Stephanie_Gee20 wrote: "I expected someone to die with all this hype they made the episode out to be #Corrie." @lynxsimba2019 fumed: "Omg what an absolute let down. They said people were going to die. Then she just packs her bag and leaves. Mille Gibson deserved better. #Corrie."
