Italian Family Freed After Two Years In Mali Captivity

Italy's foreign minister was present in Rome for the arrival of an Italian family of three who were released from two years of captivity in Mali. The family, consisting of a husband, wife, and adult son, was kidnapped by a militant group affiliated with al-Qaida from their home in Koutiala, Mali. They had been living in Mali for years as part of a community of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

The family members were reported to be in good condition upon their arrival in Rome. They were met by another adult son who expressed gratitude for the efforts made to secure their release. The son shared his relief at being reunited with his family after the harrowing experience of captivity.
