Italian Box Office Sensation 'There's Still Tomorrow' Heads Overseas

Shoppers hit the Boxing Day sales in London

'There's Still Tomorrow,' the Italian dramedy that took the box office by storm in Italy last year, is now set for release in the U.K. and Ireland through Vue, a major exhibition company. The film, directed by popular Italian actor Paola Cortellesi, made waves in Italy with its poignant portrayal of an abused housewife in post-war Rome. Garnering 5.4 million market admissions, it surpassed hits like 'Barbie' and 'Oppenheimer' to become Italy's most-watched release of 2023.

With a box office revenue exceeding $36 million, 'There's Still Tomorrow' has secured its place as the 8th highest-grossing film in Italy, the third-largest Italian film of the past decade, and the most successful Italian film directed by a woman. Notably, its Italian box office earnings nearly tripled those of 'Belfast' in the U.K., the most successful black-and-white film in that region.

The film is scheduled for wide release in the U.K. on April 26 after a sold-out screening at London's Cinema Made in Italy festival. Cortellesi expressed her gratitude for the support received in Italy and Europe, acknowledging production partners Wildside and Vision Distribution, as well as Vue for selecting her directorial debut for distribution.

This move marks a departure from Vue's usual offerings of preschool titles and sports events, signaling a potential shift towards traditional feature distribution. Vue's founder and CEO, Tim Richards, praised Cortellesi's film for its record-breaking success in Italy and emphasized the honor of bringing it to British audiences.

Vue's group event cinema manager, Johnny Carr, highlighted the company's commitment to showcasing foreign language films, aiming to broaden the reach of 'There's Still Tomorrow' across the U.K. and Ireland. Produced by Wildside and Vision Distribution, the film has captivated audiences with its powerful narrative and is poised to make a significant impact in the international market.
