One of the most easily recognised warnings on the road, the speed camera sign tells drivers to slow down or face being caught breaking the law.
However, some motorists may not be fully aware what the sign actually shows.
Did you assume the popular road sign is that of a camera seen from the side? Well it transpires that that is not the case and that is something completely different, the Daily Record reported.

Despite how proliferous it is to everyday motorists, drivers are only just learning what it really shows - and it may change your way of looking at it forever.
Twitter user @FeyeraBender highlighted that the sign doesn't actually show the side profile of an old-stlye camera with its lens pointing out.
In fact, it could actually show a modern speed camera with two lenses pointing directly at you, with the object on the side being the mounting for the camera.
They said: "For years i thought the speed camera depicted a Victorian bellows camera pointing to the right, but it's a boring CCTV camera pointing towards the viewer."
The information was new to a lot of drivers who took to the comments to express their surprise.
One wrote: "I thought this too. what’s the side thing if it is facing you?"
Another revealed they would "carry on believing the Victorian bellows theory", while another described the sing as "mean looking."
One more said the sign is accurately depicted as "everyone knows exactly what it represents."
A highway code textbook says it depicts "a black camera symbol appears on a white background on sections of road covered by speed cameras and average speed cameras."
