‘It was quite a disaster’: Mikyx admits G2 are a lot better than Fnatic

After suffering the first defeat of the LEC Summer Split, Fnatic’s veteran support Mikyx dissected the reasons behind their loss to G2 Esports, attributing the failure to a difficult draft and chaotic execution that squandered their early game leads.

“Our result against G2 was not really surprising. They’re just a lot better right now. Our troubles began in draft; both of them were a bit hard to play. In-game, we had some good early positions and got some kind of leads, but then we just threw them away,” Mikyx said in an interview with Sheep Esports. “We got caught, we were doing random stuff, we weren’t on the same page, and then everything snowballed. It was quite a disaster.”

Fnatic came into the LEC 2025 Summer Split with a revamped roster, adding Poby in the mid lane to inject young blood into their squad, but their small undefeated run came to a crashing halt at the hands of their arch-rivals, G2. The team has a long three-week holiday until they play in the playoffs, so they should have enough time to get back on track.

While G2 deployed unexpected pocket picks like Kled to catch Fnatic off guard, Mikyx suggested it was less about any single champion and more about the synergy of their overall composition. He explained that the combined pressure from G2’s three semi-global ultimates—Pantheon, Taliyah, and Kled—completely spoiled Fnatic’s strategic plans. This left them with severely limited playmaking tools and effectively sent them back to the drawing board, unable to execute their intended game plan.

In recent seasons, Fnatic have faltered in the LEC playoffs, so Mikyx says the team will wisely use the downtime between group stages and playoffs to “scout the next patch” to get ahead of the curve with their pocket picks in the upcoming matches.

Mikyx expressed dissatisfaction with the LEC’s current schedule, which has an awkward and limited format. He said his team had already played seven games, while their opponents had only played two before their match.

He believes it would be more fun and competitive to face all the teams, lamenting that they will likely not get to play against squads like NAVI at all this year. With very few games leading into the high-stakes playoffs that determine World Championship qualification, Mikyx said he is “not the biggest fan” of the schedule and would simply prefer to play more matches. He also feels awkward that Fnatic might not face teams like MKOI or KC throughout the entire Split.

Fnatic have already secured their direct berth to the Summer Split playoffs, joining G2 as the first two teams to qualify from their group. Fnatic’s arch-rivals still have to play another match this week to wrap up their group stages.
