If you’ve been to any British music festival, you’ll know that it’s not the commute to the festival that is the hardest part - it’s the slog from the gate to your campsite.
This tenuous walk requires clutching a backpack, chairs, beers and a heavy tent, all whilst navigating smug-faced fellow campers who had the organisational nous to set up early.
The heat of the sun starts to intensify, and the weight of your bag has you on the verge of tipping backwards. As you waddle through densely-packed fields, you’re mentally gearing up to pitch up your tent. It’s a fiddly task that, for the uninitiated, can take hours.
As someone who has tried and tested various tents over the years, I’ve always struggled to find the perfect festival tent. This year, finding the ultimate temporary roof was more pressing than ever as I was heading to Glastonbury to report for The Standard. I needed something easy to erect and spacious - but not too flimsy - so I could rest and get ready in between interviewing artists and snapping festival style on the fields.
With Quick Pitch written into its very name, Slumit’s two-person tent sounded ideal. Here’s how I got on with it.
CUB 2 Person Quick Pitch Moto Camping Tent key specs
Design
The tent’s design is a simple and effective dome that allows for breathability and space for movement. Although it states it’s a two-person tent, realistically, it’s too small for two festivalgoers. There isn’t much space for storage once your sleeping bags have been rolled out. But outside of a festival environment, this tent is ideal for two.
The tent is made up of a smart flash frame, an outer rainfly and an integrated bath-tub groundsheet. In simpler terms, this means the design is simple and minimal. Once the tent is erected, it creates a simple dome shape with four corners, with the bonus of a porch area. The flashframe is by far the slickest part of this tent.
Setup
After taking the tent out of its lightweight carry bag, full assembly took exactly 4 minutes and 48 seconds. I was shocked at how easy it was to put up.
Once I unrolled the tent and laid it flat on the floor, it all became so obvious that I didn’t even need to refer to the instructions. It was as simple as unfolding the tent poles so that they were at full length and pushing the tent up so that the flashframe clicked firmly into the locking slot.
Performance
The Cub tent held up well for the duration of my Glastonbury experience. Usually, I find that some of the tent pegs and guy ropes might loosen over a few days, but mine held up despite being constantly stepped on by passing campers.
The tent door was easy to zip open and closed, and the outer shell protected the inner from water and condensation. Given the extreme ease of putting the tent up, I was expecting something to snap or pop open, but overall, it remained steady and standing.
Price - is it worth the money?
Priced at £129, this tent falls under the average price bracket for a good-quality two-person tent. Despite this, I think this tent is an absolute bargain. How many people can honestly say they’ve put up a tent in less than five minutes? Less time faffing around with tent poles and guy ropes meant more time to get into the thick of the festival. Priceless.
The CUB 2 Person Quick Pitch Moto Camping Tent is by far the best festival tent I’ve ever camped in. With the price, usability and weight all taken into account, you really can’t get better bang for your buck. Whether you’re a seasoned camper or a first-time festival goer, this tent is ideal for taking along for festival weekends. The setup and pack down take virtually no time at all, and this is ideal for when you’re physically exhausted and ready to leave.
