It sounds like Chase Claypool is done with the Bears

Chase Claypool might’ve played his last down with the Chicago Bears.

Claypool was a healthy scratch in Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos, a move that came after he questioned the coaching staff for putting him in the best position to succeed.

After the game, the Bears explained that Claypool had been asked to stay home instead of be in attendance at Soldier Field. Before that confirmation from a team representative, head coach Matt Eberflus said he expected Claypool in the facility on Monday.

But it seems like things have changed in just a few hours.

Eberflus appeared on ESPN 1000’s Kap & J.Hood Monday morning, where he said Claypool won’t be in the building this week as the Bears prepare for the Commanders.

“We always base our inactives based on meetings, based on practice, based on walk-throughs during the course of the week,” Eberflus said. “And we made him inactive for that point.”

Summary: Claypool’s time in Chicago is all but done.

Claypool’s comments throwing the coaches under the bus isn’t the first time Claypool has caused a stir this season. He was criticized for his poor effort in the season opener against the Green Bay Packers, where he later apologized to his team.

Ahead of Sunday’s game, there were reports that the Bears were looking to trade Claypool. Now, it’s almost a guarantee. The only question is: Can Chicago salvage anything for him?

The Bears sent their 2023 second-round pick — which turned into No. 32 overall — to the Pittsburgh Steelers last November for Claypool. It’s safe to say this trade will go down as the worst move for general manager Ryan Poles.
