‘It’s your house, and he’s destroying it’: Hillary Clinton blasts Trump for turning the White House into Mar-a-Lago 2.0

Hillary Clinton is absolutely cracking down hard on President Donald Trump’s massive new project to build a ballroom at the White House. She’s telling voters on X that the historic building is their “house” and accusing him of “destroying it.”

If you’ve been following the news, you know that Trump announced construction had broken ground for the new, big, and beautiful White House Ballroom, which involves a demolition crew tearing down part of the East Wing’s facade. For those of us who appreciate the history and symbolism of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Clinton’s words hit hard. She shared a screenshot of the news report, saying, “It’s not his house. It’s your house. And he’s destroying it.”

It’s a striking statement that instantly throws shade on the idea of a sitting President making such a massive, permanent change to the iconic People’s House. The White House, on the other hand, isn’t exactly staying silent about the criticism.

The White House isn’t owned by any president

White House spokesman Davis Ingle quickly jumped to the project’s defense, highlighting that President Trump is “working 24/7 to Make America Great Again,” and that this ballroom is part of a “historic beautification of the White House, at no taxpayer expense.” He also made the point that these are “long-needed upgrades” that will be a benefit for “generations of future presidents and American visitors to the People’s House.”

Still, just because you don’t have taxpayers paying for renovations doesn’t make it okay to do. They’re using this as a way not to keep asking for permission, and people are falling for the argument, even when it’s a clear pivot from other criticism.

Trump himself took to Truth Social to sing the praises of his new project. He announced that he was “pleased to announce that ground has been broken” on the new ballroom. He went on to reassure everyone that the construction is “Completely separate from the White House itself,” but that the East Wing is getting a full modernization as part of the process and will be “more beautiful than ever when it is complete!” I honestly can’t believe the scale of what’s happening.

He also framed the project as a long-time dream for many Commanders-in-Chief. According to Trump, for “more than 150 years, every President has dreamt about having a Ballroom at the White House” to accommodate big events like State Visits and grand parties. He proudly stated that he’s “honored to be the first President to finally get this much-needed project underway,” again emphasizing the part about it costing American taxpayers a grand total of zero dollars.

He even listed where the money is coming from: it’s “privately funded by many generous Patriots, Great American Companies, and, yours truly.” That’s a serious amount of private cash being dumped into a government project, with the estimated cost sitting at a whopping $200 million.
