It’s Rahul Gandhi re-launch 4.0 as no one wants to head Congress: BJP on Mehangai Par Halla Bol rally

Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi’s speech during the Halla Bol rally against price rise and inflation in Delhi, the BJP on September 4 said his speech was “immature” and mocked it as the relaunch of Rahul Gandhi over his slip of tongue as he mistakenly said that flour is measured in litres instead of kilograms.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi after the Congress' rally had wound up, party spokesperson Sambit Patra said that Mr. Gandhi "doesn't even know whether flour is solid or liquid", yet insisted on "speaking on every subject".

Speaking at the Congress Mehengai Par Halla Bol rally at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, Mr. Gandhi said the flour which was earlier “₹22 per litre, is now ₹40 per litre”, but he immediately corrected it as ‘kilograms’.

Echoing similar sentiments, the BJP’s IT cell head Amit Malviya in a tweet, asked, ”whether Rahul Gandhi’s impending Presidency will be measured in kg or litre?”

Earlier in the day, addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, former Union Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said the real purpose of the Congress rally was to relaunch Mr. Gandhi.

"This rally is meant to save the family and not to protest against price rise. And to relaunch Rahul Gandhi, who has been launched several times in politics. This rally is 'Rahul Gandhi relaunch 4.0', as no one wants to lead the Congress," Mr. Rathore said.

Talking about Mr. Gandhi's remarks on judiciary, Mr. Patra termed his comments as "contempt of court."

In his remarks, Mr. Gandhi stated that there was a pressure on all the institutions including the judiciary and the media. The government was attacking them and the media was controlled by a few corporates and not functioning independently. Mr. Patra said, "from this high table of the BJP, we would like to appeal to your Lordship this is contempt of court."

Similarly, he termed Mr. Gandhi's remarks against the media as "abysmally low" and said without the media this democracy was incomplete. Calling the Congress's Halla Bol rally as a "Parivaar Bachao Andolan", Mr. Patra said that this rally was organised to save Gandhi family's existence.

Hitting at Mr. Gandhi over his remarks that the BJP and RSS were spreading hatred and anger in the country, the BJP spokesperson said, "actually it was his speech which was full of hatred and anger."

"In the National Herald case of ₹5,000 crore, Rahul and Sonia Gandhi are out on bail, investigation is going on. Those who are corrupt and who used to think that corruption is their birthright, today they are scared. Because of this fear, hatred and anger were reflected in his speech," Mr. Patra added.

He said the Congress was oblivious to the ground realities, and that "it has no vision, no policy, and no leadership."
