'It's news to me' - Lee Johnson on speculation around Bristol City striker Famara Diedhiou

Bristol City head to Florida off the back of beating AFC Wimbledon 2-3 in their latest pre-season game.

The Robins opened the scoring and controlled much of the match at Kingsmeadow on Tuesday evening before City conceded twice in the final half an hour to rouse the local fans.

Famara Diedhiou netted twice, and Adam Webster also scored, to seal the win as Lee Johnson made continual changes to share the playing time across his squad.

And following the match we asked about Bristol City's main spearhead striker after recent reports had linked the forward elsewhere, checking that the former Angers man is settled.

"I've seen a little bit of the media speculation," said Johnson.

"But it's all news to me. Fam's really happy here and we're really happy with him.

"And I expect him to be here for a long time," explained the head coach.

We asked about the first week of training and why Diedhiou was missing from the first few days back with the Robins.

"I gave him two or three days extra because of some personal circumstances and I felt it was right that he stayed in Senegal with his family," explained Johnson.

Meanwhile, the Robins conceded two more penalties in Tuesday night's win - a minor blip as the build-up to the new Championship season continues.

"It's early days and the players maybe need to quicken their feet a little bit," said Johnson on the two spot-kicks conceded making it  a quirky four in two pre-season games. It is, as Johnson says, early days.
