'It’s better now': Arsenal star William Saliba delivers injury boost in new update

Arsenal defender William Saliba hopes the ankle injury that troubled him at the start of this season is now in the past.

Saliba injured his ankle during Arsenal’s defeat at Anfield back in August and he was forced to pull out of the France squad the following week.

The centre-back then missed the Gunners’ next two games - against Nottingham Forest and Athletic Club - before returning for the showdown with Manchester City.

Saliba came through that game and a trip to Port Vale in the Carabao Cup unscathed, but then he was only fit enough to make the bench at Newcastle last Sunday.

The Frenchman came on at half-time and helped Mikel Arteta’s side fight back to win 2-1, and he hopes his injury woes are now behind him.

“It’s better now,” said Saliba. “I was feeling it a bit before [the game with Manchester] City and even after, but now I am feeling better. I hope I will not have pain anymore.”

Saliba could start on Wednesday when Arsenal host Olympiacos in the Champions League, although Arteta is likely to make changes to his side.

“We have the same ambition which is to go game by game and try to be better than the opponent, which is very difficult in this competition, and win as many games as we can,” said Arteta.

“We’re going to have a really difficult one. We know how important the home form is going to be in this phase. We have the opportunity to start well.”
