"It's a slap in the face!" Dr Hilary Jones slams one per cent NHS pay rises

Dr Hilary Jones has revealed he is 'very cross' over the proposed one per cent pay rises for NHS staff.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, the health expert said it was a 'slap in the face' to all the staff who have worked through the difficult Covid-19 pandemic.

He said: "This one per cent makes me very cross. Really cross.

"It amounts to about £3.50 per week for the average nurse.

"It's a slap in the face.

"After all they've done. They've lost about 950 people, they've lost their lives to looking after people with Covid in hospitals.

"It's all very well saying, 'Let's clap on Thursdays, let's say they're angels, let's say they're heroes', they are very skilled workers these days.

"Without them, the NHS would have collapsed long ago.

"For a lifetime peer, a hereditary peer, to say, 'They are well paid, they have job security, what are they complaining about?'

"Job security in civil service and Government is far greater than any job security in the NHS.

"They work all hours, often unpaid. One per cent is an insult."
