Dozens of demonstrators gathered near a central mosque under heavy police presence, chanting religious slogans and condemning the illustration. Some later clashed with police and damaged the magazine’s offices.
Turkish authorities have detained four staff members from LeMan, including the cartoonist, editor-in-chief, and two other employees. Two additional editors are reportedly abroad and now face arrest.
Officials claim the cartoon insults religious values, while the magazine insists the character was not the Prophet Muhammad and apologised for any offence caused.
An investigation is ongoing.
