Issa Diop says West Ham are not in 'best form' ahead of Newcastle United clash

Issa Diop believes West Ham are not in their 'best form' ahead of their upcoming clash with Newcastle United.

Eddie Howe's side will head to the capital in good spirits having recorded three straight Premier League wins to move four points clear of the relegation zone.

The Hammers remain in the hunt for Champions League football after enjoying another fine campaign to date, but dropped to fifth after Manchester United's victory over Brighton on Tuesday night.

David Moyes' side have won one in their last four league fixtures, and narrowly avoided a shock FA Cup fourth-round exit at non-league Kidderminster Harriers.

West Ham came from behind to earn a 4-2 victory in the reverse fixture at St James' Park on the opening day of the season, and will be looking to complete the double over the Magpies in Saturday's televised early kick-off.

Diop's defensive partner Craig Dawson scored an injury-time equaliser to salvage a 2-2 draw at Leicester City in their last outing, and the centre-back hopes the team can return to their best in the 'coming weeks'.

He told the club's website: “I'm happy with the game but not with everything, because we didn't win.

“Leicester are a very good team, they have a very good manager and very good players and it’s always tough to come here [to King Power Stadium] and get points. So it’s not the worst result for us.

“We’re not in our best form, so it’s good when you struggle a bit to still get some points. It’s a very important point because they all count.

“This is what we train all week for. At the moment [we’re not playing as well] as we can, but hopefully in the coming weeks it's going to work.”
